Pros & Cons of some Generative AI Tools [ChatGPT, Gemini, Bing, & Claude]

Overview

One of the biggest questions we get is, what should I use and when should I use it? Knowing which AI bot to use, what the strengths are, and what the weaknesses are is important to making sure you're getting quality responses. Below are a list of pros and cons for the most common AI Chatbots. How you use each bot may differ based on who you are, and what you're needing. We recommend trying out the same prompts with different AI systems to see which one works best for the task at hand.

ChatGPT

Pros and Cons of AI System: ChatGPT
Pros
  • Good at generating text
  • can share chats easily
  • ChatGPT plus comes with a suite of plug-ins
  • Saves and remembers chats
  • Supports other languages
Cons
  • No data sources after September 2021 (ChatGPT 3.5)
  • Does not have access to the internet
  • gives lengthy and chunky responses
  • often hallucinates (gives false information) or gives poor reasoning confidentally
  • can't operate with voice commands (free version)

Google Gemini

Pros and Cons of AI System: Google Gemini
Pros
  • Free internet access through google search (can double check by choosing the Google icon).
  • Updated, more current information than ChatGPT
  • Access to the internet, allowing real-time search
  • user-friendly interface with human-life responses
  • Can be integrated with Google products (docs, sheets, search, maps)
  • Follow voice commands
  • Saves chats
  • Supports other languages
Cons
  • Still in development
  • Susceptible to hallucinations (may produce inaccurate or misleading information).
  • All information produced should be fact-checked
  • May present bias in its' response
  • no plug-ins or integrations
  • Limited Responses and interactions per day (10 per chat, 120 per day)
  • privacy concerns around data collection

Microsoft (Co-Pilot/Bing)

Pros
  • Responses are based on internet searches (shows where answers came from)
  • Uses GPT 4 (higher quality than ChatGPT 3.5)
  • can analyze websites/local documents if used in the side bar
  • Has free image creator using DALL-E
  • Supports other languages
Cons
  • Can only send 2000 characters at a time
  • Daily limits of usage
  • Longer answer times (1.5-2x the length to process)
  • Shorter responses, often search snippet-heavy
  • Less creative
  • Does not save chats
  • Susceptible to hallucinations (may produce inaccurate or misleading information).

Claude

Pros
  • You can provide files with your prompt
  • training data is up to 2023
  • Can read up to 75,000 words at a time (150 pages)
  • Trained using a constitutional AI which outlines principles such as freedom and privacy (avoids dangerous or unethical responses)
  • Admission of ignorance rather than false answers
  • Saves chats
Cons
  • lack of text-to-image generation
  • cannot interpret images
  • Susceptible to hallucinations (may produce inaccurate or misleading information).
  • Perceived as over-cautious in some responses
  • Limited knowledge scope
