How to take a Quiz in Canvas 2

When might a professor use the "Quiz" function?

Professors may use quizzes for both graded and non-graded assignments.

  • Practice Activities
  • Assessments
  • Reflection

Set-up of Quizzes

Quizzes can be set up in a variety of ways

  • Questions all on one page or one question per page
  • Times or not timed
  • Multiple Attempts or one Attempt
  • Answers visible after the student is done, after the quiz closes, or not at all
  • Quiz Questions used

To the right, you will see an example of what quiz questions look like when there is one question per page. To get to the next page, students would press the "Next ▶" button. Once a student goes through all other questions, students will click "Submit Quiz" to turn it in. In a quiz where the questions are on the same page, students would answer all questions and then press, "Submit Quiz".


Types of Questions

Faculty may utilize one type of question for the quiz, or a variety of quiz questions. Below are some common quiz examples that faculty may use.

  • Multiple Choice
  • Short Answer/Essay
  • Matching
  • True/False
  • Fill in the Blank
  • Multiple Dropdown Menu
  • Numerical Answer/Formula Question
  • File Upload Question
