Zoom is a web conferencing tool that can be used for live class sessions, presentations by guest lecturers, conduct office hours, advising sessions, interactions between students and peers, and provide a tool for students to deliver and/or record team presentations. Zoom allows you to conduct class or hold meetings in a live online format using a web camera and microphone while sharing the contents of your screen. It features the ability to share your screen, a chat function, a virtual whiteboard, breakout rooms for smaller discussions, and allows you to record your sessions.

All faculty, staff and students at UNO have access to Zoom Pro accounts. This plan allows for unlimited duration meetings, meeting capacity of 300, and cloud video storage for recorded meetings. Zoom is accessed via the web portal, as a standalone application on your desktop or phone, or in Canvas. With the Canvas integration, you can add the Zoom link to your course menus for easy deployment.

To achieve the best Zoom experience, ensure you are on the latest version of the software. Update Zoom from your desktop client by clicking on your profile picture, in the upper right corner, and selecting "Check for Updates" in the drop-down menu. You can also download the latest version of Zoom from the UNO website.

We strongly encourage Zoom users to:

Communicate with students how they will receive and access to Zoom sessions (i.e. email, Canvas). This will ensure students know where to find key items for the course and the preferred method of contact.
Familiarize themselves with UNO's Interim Policy for Recording Classroom Activities and notify students ahead of time if recording sessions. Do not share Zoom recordings or screenshots publicly unless all students have consented to distribution outside of the course roster.
